We regretted the news of the death of Zofia Sztetyłło, a professor of archeology and an outstanding scientist. She was associated with the University of Warsaw and the Center of Mediterranean Archeology, where she was a member of the Scientific Council for several terms, and in the years 1982–1983, she was the director.
As a student of prof. Kazimierz Michałowski was one of the first graduates of the Department of Classical Archeology at the University of Warsaw. She participated in research in Crimea, Syria, and Egypt, and for many years she was a member of the Polish archaeological mission in Nea Paphos, Cyprus. She specialized in studies on the ceramics of Ancient Greece, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Black Sea region. In her research, she focused in particular on issues related to stamped ceramics, to which she has devoted a number of publications.
Prof. Sztetyłło sat in numerous bodies and scientific organizations and conducted classes for both students of the University of Warsaw and other universities. She promoted dozens of masters and several doctors, and through her didactic and organizational activity, she had a real impact on the shape of Polish Mediterranean archeology.
